Sometimes when we are waiting on someone to start a job or just have a vacancy that needs to be filled for a short period of time we need someone to fill in the basic parts of the job.  The Kaw Members who depend on the services of the Kaw Nation sometimes have to wait for the permanent new hires and we want  our tribal members to start the process as soon as possible.

These positions will be short-term and temporary.  Pay rates, days and hours will vary based on the duties of the position.  All available members who would like to do these fill-in positions would have an interview to place them where they are best suited and comfortable working when needs arise.

TITLE:  GRANTS ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:  GRANTS & CONTRACTS DIRECTOR

CONTROLLING SUPERVISOR: CHAIR

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Office Administration or related field or an Associate’s Degree with a minimum of 3 years’ experience working with federal funding and financial reporting. Must possess and demonstrate excellent communication skills (verbal and written).  Demonstrated organizational ability and an ability to meet deadlines. Must be familiar with funding research, identification of potential funding opportunities, federal grant program organization, funding portals, and reporting methods.  Must have experience with Microsoft Office including Excel and Word.  Must be able to complete federal financial reporting as well as process and disseminate information to the Department Director. Must be able to multi-task in a fast paced environment.

RESPONSIBLITIES:

  1. Work with Director and grant staff on all grant related duties as designated by Grants & Contracts Director.
  2. Complete federal financial reporting in a timely manner and distribute all monthly financials to program employees.
  3. Update and maintain internal grants/contracts monitoring system that provides all relevant information regarding grants in operation and development.
  4. Assist in federal grant/contract monitoring in the area of procedure development, documentation, software spreadsheet and database development.
  5. Assist grant team with proposals including writing, editing, table of contents, packaging, mailing, copies, preparing attachments and portal management.
  6. Prepare cover letters and award documentation for Chair signature.
  7. Responsible for the setup, filing and maintaining of grant folders relevant to the federal funding efforts of the tribe.
  8. Must hold all information regarding the Nation in the strictest confidence in all matters, responsibilities, and duties performed under this position.
  9. Assist with/complete any other job duties that might be assigned by immediate/controlling supervisor.

TITLE: DV/SA ADVOCATE

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: CHIEF OF STAFF

LOCATION: Newkirk, Ok

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of Associates degree in social sciences or a related field preferred.  Candidate must have experience in advocacy with adults and knowledge of family violence issues, experience navigating the legal field and public speaking skills. Candidate must demonstrate excellent interpersonal speaking and communication skills and possess and understanding of handling personal and confidential information.  Candidate must demonstrate strong computer skills including Excel and Word.  Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.  Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable.  Preference given to candidate who has experience in counseling in the areas of domestic violence, mental health or substance abuse.  Advocacy experience with adults and/or children highly desirable.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Serve as a domestic violence and sexual assault advocate for the Kaw Nation Comprehensive Tribal Victim Assistance Program, and initiate a coordinated community response initiatives for Native Americans in Kay County.  Also serve as a court advocate for the Kaw Nation domestic violence court, and initiate a coordinated community response initiatives for the Native Americans in Kay County.
  2. Confer with Kaw Nation Comprehensive Tribal Victim Assistance Program staff and Domestic Violence Prevention Coalition concerning domestic violence policies and victim needs.  Provide program reports on a quarterly basis or as needed.
  3. Ensure victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence or stalking have legal representation and other needed direct services.
  4. Maintain client confidentiality.  Develop data tracking system which preserves that confidentiality.
  5. Participate in multi-disciplinary meetings and other awareness efforts or training events, as needed.  Also participate in Court Planning Partner Meetings and other awareness efforts or training events, as needed.
  6. Locate and adapt domestic violence materials for culturally-relevant program use.
  7. Perform specific record-keeping, report writing, project planning, and related project procedures.
  8. Directly assists and provides services to victims of crime as well as respond to crisis calls as needed.

This position is funded through a federally funded grant.  In the event of a Federal Government shutdown, or for any reason we are unable to draw down the Federal Grant monies, this position will be furloughed until such time as the Federal Grant monies are again available.  In the event this grant ends, there is no guarantee of continued employment.

TITLE: School Age Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS:

This person must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED and two (2) years of satisfactory full-time experience in a child care setting.  Child Development Associate (CDA) or Certified Childcare Professional (CCP) or relevant training and experience are preferred.  Applicant must be willing to obtain his/her CDA/CCP.

Must be able to pass a background check, accreditation (no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions for offenses relating to children) and Drug test.  Must possess a valid Drivers License and be insurable.  Must be able to pass a physical examination.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The School Age Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining a safe and nurturing learning environment for children placed into his/her care.  The School Age Coordinator must promote the Kanza Child Care Center (KCCC) in a positive way to parents and the community.

Provide classroom management.  Maintain classroom record-keeping that may include attendance, meal counts, and daily/weekly progress reports to parents.  Develop and implement weekly lesson plans including learning and implementing the Kaw Nation Langauge into the center.  Maintain client confidentiality.  Attend local, state, regional and national child care meetings/training when deemed appropriate.  Responsible for keeping classroom clean.  Transport children to and from school, field trips, etc.  Complete any other duties as assigned by the immediate or controlling supervisor.

TITLE: OPERATIONS MANAGER – Southwind Express

Job Purpose:
The Operations Manager will oversee and ensure day to day efficient operation of the store. The Operations Manager is responsible for maintaining inventory control, product pricing, staff performance and financial management in full accordance with internal and external policies and procedures. In addition the incumbent in this position is responsible to promote positive guest relations through prompt, courteous, and efficient service.

Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. required. Minimum of one year experience in a related position in the convenience or Smoke Shop areas. Knowledge of window based computer applications and 10-key ability preferred. Superior verbal/written skills and interaction skills will be needed to fully perform job function. Attention to detail required for reading and interpreting documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

TITLE: Children’s Justice Project Case Manager (Part-time, 20 hrs per week)

B.S. degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Children/Juvenile Justice, or closely related field with one of more years of work experience in the field of juvenile services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide intervention and prevention services to Native American children in the Kaw Nation service area.
  2. Represent the Kaw Nation Children Services in our tribal jurisdiction and attend area health fairs and children’s justice events and trainings.
  3. Assist the Program Coordinator in organizing, preparing, and developing strategic plan and logic model with assistance of TTA.
  4. Work closely with tribal police, tribal court, Oklahoma Children Authority, state courts, and other service providers to implement prevention and intervention services.
  5. Maintain goals and objectives as identified in the Children’s Justice Program Grant.
  6. Provide case management services to child victims and their families, including home-based and referral services.
  7. Perform other related duties as may be required by immediate supervisor.

KAW NATION POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: PHYSICIAN

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: HEALTH DIRECTOR

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidate will possess a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from an accredited medical school and be licensed as a physician in the State of Oklahoma by the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure. Candidate will possess certification/license by the United States Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control to prescribe and administer Schedule 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 narcotics.

At least two (2) years’ experience in general/family practice is preferred.  Experience providing healthcare to Native Americans preferred.  Applicant may not have any unresolved malpractice suits pending against him/her and shall not have any unresolved complaints on file in any state where he/she has a license to practice medicine.  Experience with computerized medical records systems preferred.  Computer literacy required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Physician is assigned the following duties and responsibilities to be performed in collaboration with the medical team:

  1. Provide physician services to patients of the Kanza Health Center including physical examinations, perform and/or order diagnostic procedures, interpret and evaluate test results discriminating between normal and abnormal findings to identify the presence of disease and/or disability.
  2. Document all patient services and treatment plans in RPMS Electronic Health Records in a timely manner.
  3. Comply with all appropriate requirements for clinic quality assurance and certification.
  4. Identify, diagnose, and manage specific illnesses and disease processes.
  5. Perform minor in-patient procedures consistent with training, competency, and privileges. Oversee patient adherence to medical and nursing regimens for stable chronically ill patients and adjust treatment plans.
  6. Provide supervision for all ambulatory clinic nurses.
  7. Provide medical director services to all components of the Kaw Health System.
  8. Maintain Oklahoma licensure.
  9. Perform other duties, consistent with the position, as required or assigned by the immediate supervisor or controlling supervisor.

This is a two (2) year grant position designed to prepare an individual to speak and teach the Kanza language and to encourage community involvement in Kanza language revitalization.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Associates Degree preferred and high school diploma required.  Secondary language training/experience preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop and distribute materials as needed.
  2. Assist in face-to-face oral proficiency assessment of students.
  3. Teach at least one section of language classes located in Kaw City, Newkirk, or Ponca City.
  4. Assist and prepare materials and track community participation.
  5. Assist in various administrative functions including: typing, creating handouts, filing, etc.
  6. Perform any and all other reasonable duties as assigned by the Language Director.

  1. Patrol Kaw Nation land, investigate, enforce, and cite or arrest violators of CFR, Tribal Law, and State and Federal laws and refer to proper authorities.
  2. Makes assigned, periodic inspections and patrols of buildings and property.
  3. Performs duties assigned by patrol checklist including an examination of all doors, windows, and gates and reports any irregularities to the Police Supervisor.
  4. Prepare complete and accurate reports with all of the facts
  5. Report any fire, theft, or other dangerous or irregular occurrences to his/her supervisor.
  6. Record and report description(s) of person(s), license tag(s), and automobile(s) of unauthorized person(s) on property.
  7. Record and submit an accurate log sheet at the end of the each shift, which in addition to regular duties and irregular occurrences, records temperature and weather conditions.
  8. Testify in Tribal, Federal, and State courts when necessary.
  9. Serve court documents such as arrests warrants, search warrants, summons, subpoenas, and civil papers.
  10. Responds to request(s) for assistance on land under tribal jurisdiction.
  11. Provide back-up services when requested to Newkirk City Police and Kay County Sheriff’s Department.
  12. Perform any other responsibilities related to Tribal Police as assigned by the immediate/controlling supervisor.

Perform front-end cashier duties including operation of cash register and gas management systems.  Check-in and stock freight.  Clean.  Perform opening and closing duties.  Prepare and serve food items.  Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the manager.

Education / Experience

Excellent communication skills.  Able to read and follow directions.  Self motivated and able to complete tasks without constant direction.  Able to operate cash register count change to customers.  Able to lift and carry at least 25 lbs.  Stand on your feet for long periods of time. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.  Basic math, computer and multi-tasking skills.

Must be available to work all shifts.

Location:  Southwind Express or Woodridge Market
