                      Kanza Health Clinic Expansion Grant

                      The Kanza Health Clinic was awarded an Indian Community Development Block Grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development for the expansion of its Newkirk facility on Sept. 30.
                      This grant is expected to cut the waiting list that has plagued the clinic, which is estimated to be more than 1,240 patients.

                        Arbor Groundbreaking

                        Kaw Nation hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Sept. 20 for the dance arbor at Allegawaho Heritage Memorial Park near Council Grove, Kan. In the future, Allegawaho Park will become the site of the Washunga Days Powwow.

                          Justice Center Grant

                          On Monday, the U.S. Department of Justice awarded Kaw Nation with a grant of almost $1 million for a multipurpose justice center in Kaw City. This will combine the court and police department and feature an expanded court room.

                                    The Kaw Nation Environmental Department guided students from four area schools on tours of the Beaver Creek Wetland between May 1 and 7.                                           Kaw Nation Christmas Party and Dinner

                                          Kaw Nation hosted its tribal Christmas Party and Dinner at the Johnnie Ray McCauley Community Center on Sunday. The attendance included 217 tribal members and many guests. Children and adults received prizes. Walter Pappan won the grand prize, a big-screen television.
