        Arbor Groundbreaking

        Kaw Nation hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Sept. 20 for the dance arbor at Allegawaho Heritage Memorial Park near Council Grove, Kan. In the future, Allegawaho Park will become the site of the Washunga Days Powwow.

                          The Kaw Nation Diabetes Program hosted the annual Diabetes Christmas Dinner on Tuesday. Thirty-eight people attended the dinner. A diabetic-friendly dinner of pork, potatoes, salad and cake was served. Each attendee received a bag with a notepad and pen, measuring spoons and a recipe book explaining effective use of good carbohydrates.

                                Kaw Housing Authority Picnic

                                The Kaw Housing Authority held a picnic last Friday. The KHA staff and board members treated residents to a barbecue dinner. Acting Executive Director Ken Bellmard explained the new plans of the housing authority. Prizes, such as the rakes, hoses and weed killer, were given away.                                             At the Kaw Nation Christmas Dinner and Party, children lined up to tell Santa their Christmas wishes. Scores of kids sat on Santa’s lap and expressed various wishes, from an iPad to a dog. Every child received a stuffed reindeer before stepping up to the big man in the red suit.
