These positions will be short-term and temporary.  Pay rates, days and hours will vary based on the duties of the position.  All available members who would like to do these fill-in positions would have an interview to place them where they are best suited and comfortable working when needs arise.

KAW NATION POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: EPA Environmental Technician

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: EPA Director

CONTROLLING SUPERVISOR: Chair

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a High School diploma with the ability to withstand outside harsh environments.  This individual must be able to physically lift at least 50lbs. Must be able to set priorities, organize, coordinate work efficiently, and establish good personal relations with other office workers and work independently and creatively.  Must be able to communicate well, both verbally and written format, and prepare and present technically correct and detailed material through presentations.  Must be at least eighteen years of age, possess a valid driver license and be insurable.

OVERVIEW:

The Environmental Technician will primarily be required to assist with environmental field work as instructed and participate in environmental objectives, goals, and activities of all Kaw Nation EPA Programs. The applicant must demonstrate the potential to succeed in the job and the ability to complete on-the-job training and certification.

RESPONSIBILITIES AMD DUTIES:

  1. Assist with water quality sampling and monitoring
  2. Assist with air quality monitoring
  3. Assist in indoor air quality sampling or monitoring
  4. Participate in prescribe burns such as wetland
  5. Participate in outreach programs such as recycling, educational outreach activities, community cleanup

 KAW NATION POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Child Support Services Case Specialist

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Child Support Services Director

CONTROLLING SUPERVISOR: Chair

STATUS: Regular / Full-time

LOCATION: Ponca City, OK

QUALIFICATIONS:

Requirement is a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Sociology, Psychology, Social Work or related social service field and a minimum of two years experience in social services work in public or private sector. Requires proven ability to read court orders, to assess/evaluate written legal documents, and to implement child support guidelines.  Work history should reflect proficiency in case management and participation in court intervention cases concerning child support enforcement issues. Must demonstrate knowledge of interview methods and techniques.  Must have strong computer skills in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and other data-related software programs.  Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.  Must exhibit the ability to recognize and use accordingly skills related to confidentiality issues and professionalism issues. Must be able to work flexible hours.  Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable. Must be able to pass a background check (no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions for offenses relating to children) and drug test.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform case management services for all active clients utilizing management tools to ensure strict adherence to Federal, State, and Tribal agreements to increase consistent, long-term financial support and other services for client children.
  2. Maintain proficiency in the Kaw Nation Child Support Services codes, policies and procedures. Follow all procedures established by the Child Support Services Program to identify client needs and to provide case management services.
  3. Receive training and maintain certifications to perform buccal swab genetic testing.
  4. Coordinate client services with childcare services, GED programs, DHS, employment and training programs and others that can assist clients in removing barriers to employment.
  5. Responsible for working other jurisdictions to collect debts, locate parents, facilitate write-offs, and gain full faith and credit on foreign orders.
  6. Prepare case quarterly reports for submission to the Child Support Services Coordinator
  7. Professionally represent the child support program and attend various community meetings and events to promote the goals and market the services of the program.
  8. Meticulously maintain client files by keeping clear records of actions, conversations, and correspondence.
  9. Receive training as necessary, including some out-of-state travel.
  10. Perform any other work-related duties as assigned by immediate or controlling supervisor.

KAW NATION POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: COURT CLERK

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: CHIEF OF STAFF/ SUPREME COURT JUSTICE

CONTROLLING SUPERVISOR: CHAIR OF KAW NATION

STATUS:  REGULAR, FULL-TIME

LOCATION:  KAW CITY

SUMMARY:

Serves as Court Administrator, with duty of assisting the lawful functioning of the tribal court.  Responsible for implementing and maintaining the clerical administration of the court.  Shall be subject to judicial proceedings by the Supreme Court Justices, with all employment related issues and decisions to be made by the Chair of the Kaw Nation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Four years experience in responsible position in the administration of courts or a Bachelors degree in court room procedures or related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience.  Must have computer and data base experience..  Basic knowledge of legal system, terminology, and courtroom procedures.  Skill working in a responsive and pleasant manner with the public and court personnel.  Be familiar with the complete rules of the tribal court.  Must be able to maintain confidentiality.  Valid Driver’s license and must be insurable with Kaw Nation insurance carrier.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Process complaints and other legal documents, draft subpoenas, warrants, writs, and other orders of the tribal court.
  2. Maintain records of court proceedings.
  3. Responsible for the transcription of testimony, typing, preparing and mailing jury lists.
  4. Prepare court transcripts on request.
  5. Collect and account for fines and other property taken into custody by the court.
  6. File notices of petitions and appeals.
  7. Responsible for contacting witnesses, attorneys and litigants to obtain information and to inform/notify them when to appear in court.
  8. Responsible for all clerical and stenographic support of the court, including answering the phones.
  9. Type all court papers and correspondence, maintain all pertinent files.
  10. Operate all business machines necessary to the court.
  11. Set hearing calendar on instruction from the judge.
  12. Issue summons, subpoenas, and executions of documents.
  13. Maintain financial records of the court.
  14. Prepare and submit timely court budget and quarterly reports.
  15. Fill Jury panels
  16. Give oaths to juries and witnesses or attorneys.
  17. Record minutes of each hearing.
  18. Receive and protect exhibits.
  19. Prepare judgments for signature. Accept Bonds.
  20. Assist in criminal arraignments.
  21. Responsible for all duties set forth in section 304, Powers and Duties of the Kaw Nation Law and Order Code at Chapter 5.
  22. Coordinate training of court personnel.
  23. Coordinate activities with other law enforcement and state agencies for the enforcement of tribal court orders.
  24. Perform all other duties as assigned by the immediate or controlling Supervisor.

KAW NATION POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Transportation Director

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Chief of Staff

TYPE: Regular/Full-time

LOCATION: Kaw City, OK

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidate should have either a degree in Construction Management and three to five years’ experience or the equivalent in experience and education in a related field.  Successful candidate must possess supervisory skills and the ability to read blueprints, write reports and act as a liaison among government entities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop and implement the Kaw Nation Transportation plan.
  2. Keep up to date with all governing ordinances and regulations as they relate to Tribal Transportation.
  3. Develop policies and procedures that lead to the efficient and effective administration of the department.
  4. Show an ability to work in a group setting and be able to communicate effectively with other jurisdictions concerning roads plans.
  5. Show an ability to utilize project management best practices.
  6. Ability to work with all tribal directors and third-party specialists.
  7. Prepare budget submissions.
  8. Perform any other responsibilities as assigned by the immediate/controlling supervisor.

KAW NATION POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Wellness Center Attendant/ Group Fitness Leader

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISIOR: Manager/Assistant Manager

CONTROLLING SUPERVISIOR: Kaw Nation Chair

STATUS: Regular, Part Time

LOCATION: Kanza Wellness Center, Newkirk, OK

QUALIFICATIONS:

One year of customer service experience is preferred, preferably in the fitness industry. High school diploma/GED equivalent required. Must be 18 years of age or older. Current CPR Certification required. Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft office Suite). Superior problem solving skills. A passion for health and fitness.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Provide customer service to patrons, check people into computer, run register, answer the phone, as well as custodial duties. Keep facility clean and in good working order by cleaning machines, counters, floors, windows, bathrooms, locker rooms, exercise rooms and equipment, and a multitude of other as needed duties. Also willing to lead fitness classes such as Aqua Aerobics, Yoga, Pilates, Step, etc, knowledge of weight and cardio equipment, nutrition, and exercise for one-on-one assistance.


KAW NATION POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Accounting Manager

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Finance Director

CONTROLLING SUPERVISOR: Tribal  Chair

QUALIFICATIONS:

This employee is preferred to have a Bachelor’s degree with two (2) years experience in accounting.  The experience should include the ability to set up accounting structures and use automated accounting systems.  Computer experience is required.  Minimum of five (5) years experience in accounting may be substituted for degree requirements.

BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise all accounting associates.
  • Monitor all incoming mail, vouchers, journal entries, etc. for errors before processing.
  • Review all checks and vouchers for accuracy before signatures are obtained.
  • Monitor payment of taxes and the processing of all monthly/yearly reports for payroll for the State or Federal Government for all Tribal entities.
  • Setup new companies or grants and modify existing ones as needed in MIP.  Oversee timely closing of grants.
  • Open and close all months/years within MIP as needed.
  • Correct all MIP system errors for all Tribal entities.
  • Prepare bank statement reconciliations, handle bank voided checks and stop payments timely.
  • Prepare Accounting budget for the next year.  Monitor budget to ensure compliance and no overages.
  • Maintain and monitor MIP vendor/payroll database for duplicates, etc.
  • Maintain and monitor Laserfiche database for duplicates, etc.
  • Provide back-up for payroll and all other associates as needed.
  • Assist in closing State and Federal Contracts and Grants including auditing and preparing data for reporting and external audits.
  • Assist in preparing and implementing accounting procedures to upgrade internal controls.
  • Assist with/complete any other job duties that may be assigned.

  4. Provide crisis intervention through emotional support, conducting intakes & lethality assessments, & developing safety plans.
  5. Inform victims on their rights & what to expect through legal process.
  6. Gather resources & information to provide adequate & appropriate referrals.
  7. Be available for travel for training, weekends and evenings for outreach events & group sessions when necessary.

TITLE: POLICE OFFICER

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must have a valid Driver License.  BIA and/or CLEET Law Enforcement Certification preferred.  Each officer should possess good communication skills and be in good physical condition.  Weekend and nights required.  Officers can not have a criminal background.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Patrol Kaw Nation land, investigate, enforce, and cite or arrest violators of CFR, Tribal Law, and State and Federal laws and refer to proper authorities.
  • Makes assigned, periodic inspections and patrols of buildings and property.
  • Performs duties assigned by patrol checklist including an examination of all doors, windows, and gates and reports any irregularities to the Police Supervisor.
  • Prepare complete and accurate reports with all of the facts.
  • Report any fire, theft, or other dangerous or irregular occurrences to his/her supervisor.
  • Record and report description(s) of person(s), license tag(s), and automobile(s) of unauthorized person(s) on property.
  • Record and submit an accurate log sheet at the end of the each shift, which in addition to regular duties and irregular occurrences, records temperature and weather conditions.
  • Testify in Tribal, Federal, and State courts when necessary.
  • Serve court documents such as arrests warrants, search warrants, summons, subpoenas, and civil papers.
  • Responds to request(s) for assistance on land under tribal jurisdiction.
  • Provide back-up services when requested to Newkirk City Police and Kay County Sheriff’s Department.
  • Perform any other responsibilities related to Tribal Police as assigned by the immediate/controlling supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science or related field.  Masters degree preferred.  Four to ten year’s related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of five years experience in a natural resource related field. Demonstrated experience operating within a multi-disciplined natural resource environment. Demonstrated budgeting and supervisory experience. Knowledge and understanding of Tribal Governments and Natural Resource issues. Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, codes, policies and procedures relative to the management of Natural Resources and the environment. Demonstrated organizational and planning skills. Knowledge of EPA and OSHA regulations.  Prefer experience in computer modeling with excellent writing skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops, establishes and meets Environmental Program short term and long term goals and objectives. Develops and implements associated work plans and procedures.
  • Manages Environmental Program Grants, Contracts and MOA’s. Secures alternate funding to support existing and new projects.
  • Ensures clear and effective policies and regulatory administration and compliance procedures.
  • Represents the Environmental Program to other governmental and non-governmental agencies, organizations, Tribes, staff and the general public.
  • Develops and maintains records, reports and documents related to program activities, resource inventories and management data.
  • Coordinates activities of research personnel conducting successive phases of problem analysis, solution proposals, and testing.
  • Reviews technical aspects of project to assist staff and assess productivity of lines of       research.
  • Analyzes reports to evaluate program effectiveness and budgetary needs.
  • Coordinates planning, testing, and operating phases to complete project.
  • Confers with local regulatory agencies to discover local environmental quality standards, industrial practices, and new developments in pollution abatement.
  • Provides technical assistance to agencies conducting related environmental studies.
  • Develops and implements budgets for program projects. Monitors expenditures to remain within established budgetary constraints.
  • Directly supervises employees of the Environmental Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directly work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Chair of the Kaw Nation.

TITLE: Shelter Advocate

Shift   2nd 4:00pm to 12:00am or 12:00am to 8:00am

Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent required. Prefer experience in counseling and/or advocacy, strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work independently, ability to accept responsibility and follow through project assignments. Also prefer experience or demonstrated interest in women’s issues, preferably domestic violence. Valid Oklahoma Drivers License and clean driving record for insurability.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to callers accessing 24-hour hotline and provide services including crisis Intervention.
  • Provide information/referrals to victims of domestic violence victims and their children
  • Facilitate support groups and/or house meetings
  • Provide supportive direction relating to money management, personal hygiene, work skills, housekeeping, meal planning and preparation and utilization of other community resources
  • Assist with protective/restraining orders and other court matters
  • Arrange for emergency medical services or law enforcement services as needed
  • Complete telephone intake with women requesting shelter
  • Provide/arrange for shelter for qualified persons
  • Complete shelter intake and other related forms as required
  • Provide/arrange transportation for clients who are appropriate for shelter
  • Ensure client confidentiality and the Center’s confidentiality policy
  • Assist in the care and maintenance of the shelter.
  • Participate in staff meetings/trainings
  • Perform related duties as required and/or deemed necessary by Supervisor

TITLE: School Age Teacher

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Child Care Director

CONTROLLING SUPERVISOR: Child Care Manager

QUALIFICATIONS:

This person must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED and two (2) years of satisfactory full-time experience in a child care setting.  Child Development Associate (CDA) or Certified Childcare Professional (CCP) or relevant training and experience are preferred. Must be able to pass a background check, accreditation (no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions for offenses relating to children) and Drug test.  Must possess a valid Drivers License and be insurable.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The School Age Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining a safe and nurturing learning environment for children placed into his/her care.

  1. The School Age Coordinator must promote the Kanza Child Care Center (KCCC) in a positive way to parents and the community.
  2. Provide classroom management.
  3. Maintain classroom record-keeping that may include attendance, meal counts, and daily/weekly progress reports to parents.
  4. Develop and implement weekly lesson plans.
  5. Maintain client confidentiality.
  6. Attend local, state, regional and national child care meetings/training when deemed appropriate.
  7. Responsible for keeping classroom clean.
  8. Transport children to and from school, fieldtrips, etc.
  9. Complete any other duties as assigned by the immediate or controlling supervisor.

TITLE: GRANT WRITER/PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: GRANT AND CONTRACTS/PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

CONTROLLING SUPERVISOR: CHIEF OF STAFF

QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational requirements include a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Sociology, or related field.  At least five (5) years of experience at the level required for the position may be substituted for educational requirements.  Must possess superior verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated technical writing abilities.  Candidate will have demonstrated superior planning process skills and abilities and have a familiarity of Systems Theory and applications.  Candidate will have verifiable success in grant and contract development skills for at least two (2) years with an ability to teach others.  Must have at least three (3) years exhibited familiarity with federal grant program organization, administration, control, and other management skills.  Must also demonstrate an understanding and capabilities in evaluation research and application.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform the primary writing tasks on targeted grant requests and proposals.
  2. Technical writer for grant requests and proposals with assistance from program directors.
  3. Analyze all requirements presented in Request for Proposals (RFP’s) and/or grant applications, research appropriate data sources to develop and write effective proposals, requests written or verbal input from other experts when appropriate.
  4. Develop proposal schedules and outlines to identify all elements required in the proposal and the due dates for input.  Communicate this schedule to everyone responsible for the development, production, approval, and delivery of the proposal.
  5. Keep current on all pertinent Federal regulations to ensure compliance with proposal or grant requirements.  Work with appropriate departments to ensure applicable new policies are developed when necessary to meet new compliance requirements.
  6. When proposals are ready to submit to granting agencies, review the final write-up with appropriate in-house staff.
  7. Develop plans, strategies, and approaches to meet identified tribal community needs with ability to divide responsibilities between different persons while meeting overall time guidelines.
  8. Compile cultural, statistical, historical, and economic data for use in preparing proposals, documents, and correspondence.
  9. Provides technical assistance to program directors in preparing continuation funding or rewriting proposals and supplement requests.
  10. Assist Program Directors in developing surveys and conducting interviews within designated communities in order to establish detailed needs analysis.
  11. Researches federal, state, and other funding agencies regulations for funding sources and ensures that all grant and proposal applications are incompliance with those regulations.
  12. Assist in grant and contract monitoring in the areas of procedure development, documentation, and software spreadsheet development.
  13. Assist with/complete any other job duties that might be assigned by immediate/controlling supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

KAW NATION POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: PHYSICIAN

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: HEALTH DIRECTOR

CONTROLLING SUPERVISOR: CHAIR OF KAW NATION

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidate will possess a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from an accredited medical school and be licensed as a physician in the State of Oklahoma by the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure. Candidate will possess certification/license by the United States Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control to prescribe and administer Schedule 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 narcotics.

At least two (2) years’ experience in general/family practice is preferred.  Experience providing healthcare to Native Americans preferred.  Applicant may not have any unresolved malpractice suits pending against him/her and shall not have any unresolved complaints on file in any state where he/she has a license to practice medicine.  Experience with computerized medical records systems preferred.  Computer literacy required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Physician is assigned the following duties and responsibilities to be performed in collaboration with the medical team:

  1. Provide physician services to patients of the Kanza Health Center including physical examinations, perform and/or order diagnostic procedures, interpret and evaluate test results discriminating between normal and abnormal findings to identify the presence of disease and/or disability.
  2. Document all patient services and treatment plans in RPMS Electronic Health Records in a timely manner.
  3. Comply with all appropriate requirements for clinic quality assurance and certification.
  4. Identify, diagnose, and manage specific illnesses and disease processes.
  5. Perform minor in-patient procedures consistent with training, competency, and privileges. Oversee patient adherence to medical and nursing regimens for stable chronically ill patients and adjust treatment plans.
  6. Provide supervision for all ambulatory clinic nurses.
  7. Provide medical director services to all components of the Kaw Health System.
  8. Maintain Oklahoma licensure.
  9. Perform other duties, consistent with the position, as required or assigned by the immediate supervisor or controlling supervisor.
